The 49ers’ path to hiring Kyle Shanahan as coach will resume in some capacity Sunday afternoon, whether or not he wins or loses as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator in the NFC Championship Game.
If the Falcons lose to the Green Bay Packers, the 49ers are expected to fly Monday to Atlanta and meet with Shanahan that night, likely making a deal that league rules preclude finalizing from until the Falcons’ season is done.
If the Falcons advance to Super Bowl LI in Houston on Feb. 5, Shanahan will take the next couple days formulating a game plan before meeting with 49ers officials on Friday, according to a league source.
