Eric Reid wrote an eloquent and emotional note for the New York Times to reinforce his stance alongside former teammate Colin Kaepernick.
The 49ers safety and fellow national anthem protester said in a letter posted Monday that he is “heartbroken” over “constant smears” of Kaepernick, who was targeted by President Donald Trump at a rally Friday.
“It’s disheartening and infuriating that President Trump has referred to us with slurs but the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Va., as ‘very fine people,'” Reid wrote, in part. “His remarks are a clear attempt to deepen the rift that we’ve tried so hard to mend.
