Darren Sproles would be excellent fit for 49ers, but ...

SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers are one of three teams without a punt- or kick-return touchdown since the 2011 season and they lost arguably their most explosive return man to the Fijian Olympic rugby squad this week.

Jarryd Hayne, after all, led San Francisco with a 9.5-yard punt-return average last season but only had eight attempts. Bruce Ellington was the primary return man and averaged 7.2 yards on 19 returns.

Meanwhile, one of the best returners in the game, and someone familiar to 49ers coach Chip Kelly, reportedly is on the trading block.

Eagles running back Darren Sproles has been sitting out the Eagles' voluntary practices this offseason.
