Owens was a supremely talented receiver who also was a supreme pain. Mariucci, the 49ers coach, was already bristling over Owens’ antics when, on Sept. 24, 2000, T.O. caught a touchdown pass in Dallas against the Cowboys, then ran to the Dallas star at midfield where he luxuriated in his own magnificence.
