The 49ers’ placeholder quarterback already has lost his place in the starting lineup.
And the team’s decision to wait to draft a quarterback isn’t looking quite as brilliant.
Given the series of logical moves the 49ers made with the mess they inherited, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan largely have avoided criticism during a massive rebuild that has started with an 0-6 record.
However, their initial moves at the NFL’s most important position merit scrutiny.
On Sunday, Brian Hoyer, Shanahan’s hand-picked starter for 2017, was benched in the midst of the sixth start of his tenure with the 49ers.
