NFL preseason games are less about wins and losses and more about grooming starters and backups for the regular season.
And taking a look at players on the fringes of the roster.
For the San Francisco 49ers, who managed a 24-21 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday, there were a number of positives. Rookie defensive tackle Jullian Taylor was a force, managing a sack and two quarterback hits. Same with another rookie, wide receiver Richie James, who caught the game-winning touchdown with 18 seconds left in regulation.
That game is over now, and the Niners are now focused on their preseason Week 2 bout with the Texans in Houston.
