49ers training camp: How alarming is Dee Ford’s knee pain?

SANTA CLARA — Defensive end Dee Ford came to the 49ers as a high-priced solution to a meager pass rush. A week into training camp, they’re protecting that investment.

Ford’s left-knee tendinitis required a platelet-rich plasma injection that will keep him out a week, coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday’s session.

Ford was forced him out of practice last Tuesday and Thursday because of the knee, an issue he dealt with in previous seasons on the Kansas City Chiefs. He told me after Tuesday’s practice that the pain comes and goes but that “we’re all good.”
