49ers' Shanahan planned for post-Super Bowl handshake better than he did for OT

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan appears to have been better prepared for a postgame Super Bowl handshake than his team was for an overtime appearance in the Super Bowl.

After the Niners’ 25-22 loss on Sunday, Shanahan did not meet with Chiefs coach Andy Reid at midfield to share a traditional handshake. This was a decision the two coaches made on Monday, to avoid a repeat of Super Bowl LIV, where Shanahan — also the losing coach of that Super Bowl — was stuck waiting “about 25 minutes” for Reid, Shanahan said, as the Kansas City coach was mobbed in celebration.
