49ers’ Roger Craig won’t reach Hall of Fame as modern-era candidate

Former 49ers running back Roger Craig, the first player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in a season, will not reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a modern-era candidate.

On Tuesday, Craig wasn’t named one of 15 finalists in his 10th and final year of eligibility. Craig, 57, was named a finalist just once, in 2010, during the past decade. He can be considered by the Hall’s senior committee once he’s been retired for 25 years.

Meanwhile, others with 49ers ties, including general manager John Lynch and wide receiver Terrell Owens, are among the final 15.
