49ers release former starters Adrian Colbert, Joshua Garnett, reports say

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly released two former starters as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players for the start of the 2019 regular season.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported Saturday morning the 49ers planned to release guard Joshua Garnett, and The Athletic’s Matt Barrows later reported the 49ers informed safety Adrian Colbert of his release.

Garnett was a first-round pick out of Stanford in 2016 and started 11 games in his rookie season under then-head coach Chip Kelly. He struggled with injuries the past two seasons and lost his job to Mike Person in 2018.
