49ers release disappointing RT Erik Pears

The San Francisco 49ers have moved on from Erik Pears.

Pears was brought in last season by the San Francisco 49ers initially as a backup to starting right tackle Anthony Davis. When Davis “retired” without warning last summer, Pears was forced into the starting spot.

Needless to say, Pears should not have been starting.

The 49ers gave up the second-most sacks in the NFL last season (53) behind the poor play of Pears and some of his teammates. With Trent Brown looking good this offseason and Anthony Davis returning, the 49ers no longer have a need for Pears and subsequently released him.
