Eric Reid, the 49ers’ most outspoken player regarding social issues since Colin Kaepernick left, joined the chorus of NFL players Friday angry over an incendiary remark from Houston Texans owner Bob McNair.
McNair, in an ESPN The Magazine, was quoted as telling other owners last week that: “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.” McNair issued a statement Friday expressing regret and and claiming he was not referring to players.
“He couldn’t have picked a poorer choice of words, referring to us as prisoners. Welcome to America 2017,” Reid said in the 49ers locker room.
Reid said he got a “positive vibe” from McNair while attending a joint session between owners and players at last week’s summit in New York.
