The Niners' running back room is thin once again.
Elijah Mitchell, who struggled with injuries last season and over the summer, sprained his MCL on Sunday and will miss "about two months," according to an ESPN report Monday.
Mitchell left Sunday's loss to the Bears in the first half after just six carries, leaving receiver Deebo Samuel and quarterback Trey Lance to carry the load in the running game. Lance led the 49ers with 13 carries and 54 yards, while Samuel, rumored to be unhappy with his run-heavy role last year, had eight totes for 52 yards, sliding back into his old "wide back" job.
