49ers promptly waive Glen Coffee after RB comes out of retirement

Glen Coffee doesn’t fit into the 49ers’ future even after the running back reportedly came out of retirement Friday.

Coffee, who ran for 226 yards and a touchdown in 2009, was reinstated from retirement and swiftly waived by the 49ers, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Those who recall that 2009 season super specifically may not need a refresher on Coffee, but that doesn’t cover everyone. Coffee was a third-round pick out of Alabama, which he left after his junior year to pursue the NFL. He helped back up Frank Gore as a rookie before he retired in 2010, later enlisting in the Army.
