SANTA CLARA — Jimmy Garoppolo officially got named the 49ers starting quarterback Tuesday, exactly four weeks weeks after he arrived in a trade from New England and opened his press conference by saying: “Thrilled to be here right now.”
Now comes a homecoming of sorts for his starting debut. The 49ers (1-10) play Sunday against the Chicago Bears (3-8) in Soldier Field, located about 30 miles from Garoppolo’s hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
