Kyle Shanahan is looking for a quarterback. That’s a clear need when he looks at a 49ers roster devoid of any single one.
“Well, I know that we don’t have any really under contract,” Shanahan said Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine.
“I know (Colin) Kaepernick is (under contract), but just seeing today that he’s going to opt out in a week or whenever that is,” Shanahan added. “We don’t have anybody on our roster so I’ve thrown them into the category of everybody else who are free agents and possibilities going into the draft.”
Kaepernick, according to multiple reports, will opt out of the final season of his contract, something he can do as early as Thursday to hit the free agent market by March 7.
