The San Francisco 49ers are set to release Torrey Smith, clearing out one of the biggest contracts on their books. The team has not announced the move yet, but once it is complete, they will have 58 players on the roster. That puts them right in the middle of the pack in terms of rostered players around the NFL.
The 49ers currently have ten draft picks, which without any trades would bump them up to 68 players. If they were to sign another 10 undrafted free agents following the 2017 NFL Draft, that would put them up to 78 players.
