One candidate is sprinting under the radar and past a peloton of young, unheralded receivers audition at 49ers camp, all seeking to start opposite Torrey Smith.
Jerome Simpson is the exception among the herd. He’s the only one over 30. Not that he acts like a stodgy, wobbly veteran.
“He shares his knowledge well, and he fits in, too,” Smith said. “I mean, he plays Pokémon with them. So, he’s diverse.”
