49ers-Bucs halftime: Studs and duds in season opener

TAMPA, Fla. — The first half of the 49ers season was a messy one, complete with an ejection of Kwon Alexander, a pick-six by Jimmy Garoppolo and the overturn of three touchdowns, including two by George Kittle.

Here are the 49ers thriving and flailing at halftime as the host Buccaneers lead 7-6:

Mark Nzeocha: Alexander’s replacement, he made the 49ers first interception of the season – one shy of matching the team’s 2018 total – to put the 49ers at the Tampa Bay 29 with 2:49 until halftime. Re-signed this offseason primarily for his special-teams prowess, Nzeocha came in to block the Bucs’ punt on the season’s opening series.
