49ers’ brutal injury aftermath: Ward and Gilliam done for year, Staley and Thomas out at least 3 weeks

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ day-after injury report from their 33-10 whipping in Philadelphia was expected to be one of their worst in recent years, and coach Kyle Shanahan was forced to dish out a lot of bad news Monday after rounding up all the injury casualties for his winless football team.

Shanahan announced that safety Jimmie Ward (broken forearm) and tackle Garry Gilliam (knee) would be headed for season-ending injured reserve, while veteran standout tackle Joe Staley (eye) and rookie defensive end Solomon Thomas (knee) won’t be back until after the 49ers’ bye week, which would have them returning in late November at the earliest.
