The NFL has a whole set of awards it gives its players after every season. Fans wait to see who will win Defensive Player of the Year or Most Valuable Player. Those awards among others, honor on-the-field excellence.
There is one other award though which honors success off the field. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award honors a player who has achieved excellence serving his local community or in some cases the global community.
The award was named after the late, great Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton who himself was a great humanitarian.
