JUST IN: 49ers Release Ray McDonald After Sexual Assault Allegation

The San Francisco 49ers are releasing DE Ray McDonald, per Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

On Wednesday morning, police named McDonald the suspect in a sexual assault that occurred on Tuesday in San Jose.

McDonald was arrested in August on suspicion of felony domestic abuse, but was not suspended after the DA declined to press charges.

Here's the full statement on the investigation from San Jose police:

On December 16, 2014 at approximately 10:43 am, the San Jose Police Department received a call from a local area hospital regarding a possible sexual assault victim who was receiving treatment. Officers responded and made contact with the adult female victim. The victim alleged she was possibly sexually assaulted a day prior. The preliminary investigation revealed the alleged suspect was Ray McDonald.

The San Jose Police Department Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit was notified and responded to conduct follow-up investigation. Based on preliminary investigation, detectives secured a search warrant and served it at the alleged suspect's residence in San Jose.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is active and on-going. No other information will be released at this time.
