49ers news and rumors today focus on Arik Armstead and the report that the 49ers are working on a long-term contract extension to bring back Armstead for the 2020 NFL season. Armstead is just one of many 49ers free agents and it was originally predicted that San Francisco would have to franchise tag Armstead, however, ESPN reported that a new deal is in the works. 49ers free agency targets could (and should) include a cornerback. Pro Football Focus has linked the 49ers to free agent CB Ronald Darby, calling it a “perfect match.” Darby has spent the last few years in Philadelphia with the Eagles where he helped that defense win Super Bowl 52. Darby would provide some stability on the outside alongside Richard Sherman, however, there is cause for concern when it comes to his ability to stay healthy. Speaking of free agents, don't get your hopes on on AJ Green to SF. The Bengals are expected to franchise tag Green before the deadline on March 12th. Luckily for Kyle Shanahan and Co., they will have plenty of options in free agency with Robby Anderson, Amari Cooper, Breshad Perriman & more all set to hit the open market.

Tom Brady to the 49ers? Well, Dion Sanders thinks so. During the NFL Network broadcast of the NFL Combine this past week, Prime suggested a trade between the Patriots and 49ers. Mott puts together a possible trade that would send Jimmy Garoppolo to New England in return for draft capital. The 49ers would also sign Tom Brady off of the open market. Reports suggest that Brady’s open to any and all possibilities, however, would John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan be open to this idea after publically backing Jimmy at the combine just last week?
