49ers Retake Lead In NFC With 48-46 Win Over Saints + Injury News On Richard Sherman & Weston Richburg

San Francisco 49ers got the win over the New Orleans Saints 48-46 to retake the lead in the NFC Playoff Picture. The game saw two lead changes in the last two minutes, but the 49ers offense won the game for them thanks to Jimmy Garoppolo’s four touchdowns and Kyle Shanahan’s creative playcalling. The defense giving up 46 points to the Saints isn’t what was expected from one of the NFL’s best defenses, earning themselves a D- in today’s 49ers grades

49ers center Weston Richburg was carted off the field in the third quarter after suffering a leg injury. He was seen leaving the game in a boot and crutches and Kyle Shanahan was not confident when/if Richburg will return. That leaves Ben Garland to fill in on the offensive line. Others injured 49ers include Dee Ford (hamstring), Richard Sherman (hamstring), and cornerback K’Waun Williams (concussion).

Raheem Mostert was fantastic yet again for the 49ers on a day when Tevin Coleman really struggled. Matt Breida returned from injury and had some nice runs, however, it is very strange to see Tevin Coleman being a non-factor for this 49ers offense. IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW, 49ers Report host Thomas Mott explores if Mostert has emerged as the RB2 behind Matt Breida? Stats and usage appears that way.

Drew Brees absolutely torched the 49ers defense throwing for 349 yards and 5 touchdowns. The 49ers defense, who entered the game as the league’s best for pass yards allowed, got no pressure on Brees and allowed him to complete 29 of 40.

The 49ers are sitting comfortably as the #1 seed in the NFC, but can they stay there? Thanks to the road win over the Saints and the Rams defeating the Seahawks, the Niners are poised for what could be a week 17 showdown where winner-takes-all.
