San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said he expected to meet with Justin Smith in mid-January to get a sense as to whether the star defensive lineman would return to the team or retire.
Now in mid-May, Baalke told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he would finally get to speak with Smith this week at San Francisco's complex to discuss Smith’s plans.
“He and I are going to sit down and just talk,” Baalke said. “We’ll probably have a better answer at that stage, but I have not talked to him outside of a brief conversation I had with him yesterday to find out when we could get together.
The Niners have said all along that Smith could take as long as he wants to make his decision as long as it doesn't affect their roster plans, and their three-day rookie minicamp starts on Saturday.Back to the San Francisco 49ers Newsfeed
