49ers News: Aldon Smith to take indefinite leave of absence

Aldon Smith, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI last Friday, has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team. According to 49ers GM Jed Jork, Smith will enter rehab and definitely miss the 49ers Thursday game against the St. Louis Rams.

"I wanted to apologize to the team, the organization, my family and everybody I let down," Smith said after San Francisco's 27-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.. "I also wanted to let it be known that this is a problem and it's something that I will get fixed, and that I'll do everything in my power to make sure that this never happens again." The Pro Bowler did not field questions from the media after his brief statement.

Smith played in today's loss, and had five tackles. Friday's arrest was Smith's second DUI in his brief career, and he is currently being sued in relation to a shooting at a party he hosted.
