SDSU men’s basketball moves on to quarterfinals of NIT with 93-78 win over Washington

When the No. 8 offense in the country stepped onto the floor against the No. 3 scoring defense in the county Monday night at Viejas Arena, it was anyone’s guess which side of the ball would prevail.

As the old adage goes, though: Defense wins championships.

The San Diego State men’s basketball found that to be true, sort of, as it beat University of Washington, 93-78, in the second round of the NIT.

Though Washington scored near its average of 84.1 points per game, the Aztecs controlled the tempo and led for nearly 38 minutes of the contest.
