Men’s basketball’s second half surge falls short at Colorado State, 79-71

Aztecs’ slow start and 15 turnovers cost them their fifth loss of the season

San Diego State guard Lamont Butler pulls up for a jump shot earlier this season at Viejas Arena. The senior scored 16 points and made three of five 3-pointers in the Aztecs’ 79-71 loss at Colorado State on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The San Diego State men’s basketball team allows the least amount of points per game (67.3) and lowest field goal percentage (40.7) to their opponents among Mountain West teams.

However, it was Colorado State’s defense that was suffocating on Tuesday night, forcing the Aztecs (16-5, 5-3 Mountain West) into an uncharacteristic 15 turnovers as they fell to the Rams 79-71 at Moby Arena.
