Aztecs look to take strides in 2020 with new offense in place

The 2020 San Diego State football team is not only playing in a new stadium, but they have a new offensive scheme with a new offensive coordinator.

Former offensive coordinator Jeff Horton moves to associate head coach and remains the running backs coach.

Jeff Hecklinski, who has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience — including being part of head coach Brady Hoke’s first SDSU staff during the 2009-10 seasons — returns to coach SDSU’s offense and the quarterbacks.

Hecklinski’s new offensive scheme includes implementing more run-pass options (RPOs) into the playbook. Adding more RPOs will give more options for sophomore quarterback Carson Baker, the starting play-caller.
