Why are Padres starting Ian Kinsler instead of Ty France?

ATLANTA —

With Fernando Tatis Jr. sidelined at least Monday and possibly longer with a hamstring injury, Padres manager Andy Green acknowledged he has “a lot of options” and “alignment choices” in his infield.

That is especially so with San Diego State product Ty France up from Triple-A.

Among Green’s options would be moving Manny Machado from third to shortstop, where he has played in the majors, and inserting France at his natural position of third base.

“As time passes,” Green said. “You’ll see Ty France on the field. … I don’t think that’s far off.
