‘Two months changed everything’ for Padres’ Drew Pomeranz

The first time Drew Pomeranz ventured into free agency, he waited nearly three months for his phone to ring. When it finally did, the $1.5 million offer from the Giants paled in comparison to the $8.5 million the Red Sox awarded him in his last year of arbitration-eligibility.

Deservedly so.

The former 17-game winner saw his ERA balloon to 6.08 in 2018. It was nearly that high last July when the Brewers acquired the 6-foot-6 left-hander to slide into their bullpen.

The next two months changed everything, starting with his perspective.

“You see the way baseball is evolving,” Pomeranz said Saturday morning at Padres FanFest at Petco Park.
