Texas Rangers bring up Matt Bush

He was mentioned in the same breath with catcher Steve Chilcott (1966, Mets) and pitcher Brien Taylor (1991, Yankees) as the only No. 1 overall draft picks who never reached the major leagues.

Sports Illustrated placed him atop its list of baseball’s all-time Top 10 draft busts.

But Matt Bush is no longer the answer to a draft trivia question and he’s doing his best to shed the label as a bust.

The Texas Rangers promoted Bush to the major leagues on Friday, giving the 30-year-old right-hander from Mission Bay High the chance to make right what had gone so wrong after the Padres made Bush the first overall pick in the 2004 draft.
