Tyler Stubblefield, the Padres’ 22nd-round pick in 2010, was an infielder at low Single-A Fort Wayne six years ago. Today, the 31-year-old area scout counts first-rounders Trea Turner, Ryan Weathers and CJ Abrams among his recommendations in his new life in baseball. Work on the next draft class is already underway.

Union-Tribune: You’ve been the recommending scout on first-round selections in three of your first six years as a scout. You signed Trea Turner your first year on the job. How do you go from playing to having so much success so quickly?
