Centerfielder Jackson Merrill, who missed the first game of the Athletics series in Sacramento on Monday night, has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Outfielder Oscar Gonzalez has been called up from Triple-A El Paso to replace him on the roster.
Merrill was kept out of Monday’s game with ‘leg stiffness’ per manager Mike Shildt but it was said to be precautionary. The decision was made to put him on the IL on Tuesday and Jose Iglesias will play left field while Brandon Lockridge moves to centerfield for the game on Tuesday night.
