Rod Barajas didn’t know what to do.
He has been preparing for this role. He believes he is ready for this role.
But this is not when or how he wanted what he wanted. He still talks about dealing with the “different emotions” involved in taking over as interim manager Saturday when the Padres fired Andy Green.
That was certainly true in the hours after he got the call, while watching his daughter’s soccer game, that he would be taking over.
“I was a wreck,” he said after observing batting practice one day this week.
