Rockies chip away at Lucchesi, Padres drop second straight

Plagued by injuries and slowed by uncharacteristically sluggish bats, the Rockies came to San Diego in last place in the National League West.

The Padres insisted that meant even less than their being the current division leaders.

“They’re a team that has been in the playoffs the past two years,” manager Andy Green said before the game. “They’re a team we need to knock off consistently if we want to get to that spot.”

The Padres have for some time been the great physician. Our fair city has been where ailing teams come to get well.
