Report: Padres, Orioles discussing possible Upton deal

WASHINGTON — The Padres and the Orioles reportedly are discussing a trade that would send outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to Baltimore in exchange for right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez.

According to a FoxSports.com report, no agreement is close, as the Padres also are seeking a prospect. Acquiring the diminished Jimenez would help offset Upton's contract, which has gone from virtually immovable to an intriguing asset.

Upton, a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year, is owed a little more than $22 million over the rest of this season and 2017. He is hitting .259 with 16 home runs and 20 steals.
