Pitching, defense help Padres beat Brewers

Randy Vasquez completed 3 2/3 innings before allowing a single to Sal Frelick and Vasquez and the bullpen helped the San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-0.

Vasquez had trouble with walks, allowing four to Brewers hitters. He was able to work around the walks without allowing a run because he allowed just two hits and struck out two over 4 2/3 innings. Vasquez needed 78 pitches to get through his outing and 40 were strikes.

It’s time to ditch the “pitchers have to go five innings to qualify for a win” rule. Randy Vàsquez wasn’t lights out, but he certainly deserves the win more than a reliever.
