Padres walked off at end of another losing season, expecting changes and better days

PHOENIX —

On an infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Padres were walked off into an offseason of anticipation.

There will be new uniforms and a new manager and, they expect, a roster with new faces and a renewed expectation of winning.

“I was told we won’t lose in brown,” Eric Hosmer said with a smile late Sunday afternoon.

The Diamondbacks’ Tim Locastro beat out a throw from Padres’ shortstop Luis Urias, allowing Christian Walker to run home from third base with the only run of the season’s final game, as fitting an ending as perhaps could have come to the Padres’ team record-tying ninth straight losing season.
