Manny Machado took a swing that caused the Friar Faithful to hold their breath as the ball sailed deep into right field. The ball came down into the glove of Nick Castellanos. But with one out in the inning and runners on the corners, the fly out was deep enough to allow Fernando Tatis Jr. to tag up and score to put the San Diego Padres on top of the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4.
Despite a scare from Philadelphia in the bottom of the eighth inning where the tying run was on third base, San Diego was able to maintain the lead.
