Padres stay close to home with latest undrafted free agent

The Padres didn’t stray far from home to add an intriguing catcher to their farm system.

USD catcher Adam Kerner has signed with the Padres, according to the baseball program’s Twitter account.

The Padres have not confirmed any of the six undrafted free agent signings that Baseball America has tied to the club, nor deals with fourth-rounder Levi Thomas and fifth-rounder Jagger Haynes.

Both Thomas ($80,000) and Haynes ($300,000) signed under-slot deals, presumably helping the Padres make room in the $10.67 million draft pool for an over-slot deal with third-rounder Cole Wilcox.
