The San Diego Padres managed just two hits against Bailey Falter and the rest of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers and took a 5-0 loss at Petco Park, Saturday.
Fernando Tatis Jr. singled in the first inning and Martin Maldonado singled in the third inning, but that was all the offense San Diego could put together. Both of those hits came against Falter and the Pittsburgh relievers did not allow a hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
The Pirates started the scoring early against Padres starter Dylan Cease. They scored a run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Bryan Reynolds to score Oneil Cruz, after he doubled to start the inning, and held a 1-0 lead.
