Padres send Franchy Cordero to Royals for reliever Tim Hill

The Padres have moved on from Franchy Cordero and added a reliever to their deep bullpen.

The team consummated a trade Thursday evening with the Royals that brings left-handed reliever Tim Hill to San Diego in exchange for the uber-talented but oft-injured Cordero and right-handed pitcher Ronald Bolaños.

Hill, 30, who pitched one season for Palomar College, had a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) in parts of two seasons with the Royals.

The need for a lefty arose when José Castillo went down with a lat strain last week, an injury from which the Padres expect he will be fortunate to recover in time to pitch this season.
