Padres send Esteban Quiroz to Rays to complete Tommy Pham trade

Esteban Quiroz is no longer blocked in San Diego.

The Padres are sending the 28-year-old minor league second baseman to the Tampa Bay Rays to complete this offseason’s Tommy Pham trade.

Fangraphs.com’s Eric Longenhagen first reported the completion of the trade, which also sent Hunter Renfroe and minor league infielder Xavier Edwards to the Rays in December for Pham and infielder/reliever Jake Cronenworth.

Quiroz was in his second big league camp with the Padres and was on the fringes of the second base competition when Brian Dozier arrived on a minor league deal.
