Padres’ Petco Park workouts limited to groups of two or three

Some Padres players have begun working out at Petco Park in groups of no more than two to three at a time, as they attempt to stay in shape for a season with an indeterminate start.

Players are allowed to play catch, lift weights, condition and hit in the batting cage and are expected to adhere to the prescribed social distancing requirements. The workouts are voluntary.

Monday would have been the Padres’ final spring training game in Arizona. Opening day was scheduled for Thursday. The season has been delayed at least until mid-May due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, and many inside baseball believe games won’t be played until July.
