Wade replaced Manny Machado at third base after Machado advanced from second on a Gavin Sheets ground out to second base. Xander Bogaerts was pitched around, and eventually intentionally walked to put runners at the corners.
Jake Cronenworth stepped to the plate with a chance to win the game for San Diego.
