Padres offense goes quiet against Ryne Nelson, Diamondbacks

The San Diego Padres were held hitless after the fifth inning and opened their three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-1 loss at Chase Field, Friday.

The Padres scored first in the game with a first inning run thanks to Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Arraez. Tatis Jr. opened the game with a double to right field on the first pitch from Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson.

Arraez followed Tatis with a sacrifice fly to center field. Tatis Jr. tagged and advanced to third from second base. The throw from Arizona centerfielder Alek Thomas was short and skipped past third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
