Padres notes: untouchable arms; roster reduction; Cordero injured

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. —

Padres General Manager A.J. Preller said he has participated in “a lot of meetings” and had “a lot of conversation going on.”

The General Managers meetings are ostensibly the offseason’s kickoff, as members of all 30 personnel departments are in the same place and player agents are in town as well.

“It’s always busy,” Preller said. “It may feel a little busier right now for us.”

Preller is essentially setting up a chess board. He hasn’t made his first move, but he is thinking several moves ahead.

He needs pitchers, probably two starters and two relievers.
