The Padres have more questions in the outfield than they thought they would at this point.
That’s a big part of why they acquired Nick Martini and have started him in left field six times in the past seven games. And why Josh Naylor has started 17 of the past 21 games, eight in right and nine in left.
“We’re spreading opportunity around,” manager Andy Green said Saturday. “We want to see who finishes strong and who really grabs it.”
The player they really need to do so is Hunter Renfroe, who on Saturday was sitting in the dugout for the sixth time in nine games.
