Padres notes: Naylor, Wingenter down with a plan; Urias returns better

CHICAGO —

Luis Urias’ arrival and Josh Naylor’s departure have left the Padres even shorter on left-handed batters, with limited power coming off the bench many days and with two utility infielders every day.

Greg Garcia will get the bulk of starts when Manny Machado or Urias get a day off. Urias will slide from second base to shortstop when Tatis takes a day.

Ian Kinsler will transition to the spot the 14-year veteran was expected to fill when he signed in the offseason.

“I think you’ll see GG in those games and Kins adjusting to more of a bench role and helping guys on the team be primed and ready to go to win baseball games,” manager Andy Green said before Sunday’s 5-1 victory over the Cubs.
